Chown Pella Lofts

Welcome to Chown Pella Lofts!

On the edge of the Pearl you'll find Portland's most modern loft building - The Edge.  Built in 2004 and standing 11 stories tall, The Edge is a great example of modern minimalism with concrete pillars and floors and large windows.  Most of the homes here are one open space, even if they say 2 bedroom that means there is space for two bedrooms but may not necessarily be walls.  Some residents have built walls or sliding doors to separate them.

Location of Chown Pella

416 NE 13th Ave, Portland, OR 97209
Chown Pella was the first Pearl District conversion of a historic warehouse into residential condominiums. Located in the 13th Avenue Historic District, the brick building is a landmark in the neighborhood and its location is considered to be the center of the Pearl.  The 68 lofts at Chown Pella range from 719 to 2170 square feet.

About Chown Pella Lofts

The original 1910 building on the south side is seven stories and the north building, which was added in 1911, is four with a 5th floor added in 1995.

Chown Pella is on the National Historic Register. Originally, railroad tracks ran through the outdoor parking courtyard, bringing freight to what was then the “Oregon Transfer Company.” The two original wooden water tanks are still intact, maintaining the original character of the structure.

“Industrial Strength Living in The Pearl” was the tag line of John Carroll’s first condominium conversion. Open loft spaces with exposed brick and heavy timbers were created from two former warehouse buildings.
